Participate in the the decision making of the association by joining the Board of Directors. Each position has an integral part in the association.  See the descriptions and requirements for each position below.  In the fall of each year, the membership nominates and votes on the proceeding boards members. If you are interested in volunteering your talents by serving on the Board of Directors please let us know.

President

President

The President of SGAR is the chief presiding officer of the Association and the chairperson of the BOD.  This individual is responsible for the general direction of the Association.

Duties:

  1. Mentor and guide President-Elect.
  2. Exercises leadership in the motivation of Officers, Board members, committee members, office staff, and membership.
  3. Presides over all BOD and Executive Committee meetings.
  4. Supports and defends the policies adopted by the BOD.
  5. Promotes interest and active participation in the Association.
  6. Acts as spokesperson for the Association to the press, the public, legislative bodies, and related organizations.
  7. Influences the establishment of goals and objectives of the organization.
  8. Coordinates all BOD meeting agendas with the AE.
  9. Assures that the organizational structure and policies of the Association are reviewed annually with the AE.
  10. Works with the AE to see that basic policies and programs will further the goals and objectives of the Association as planned, formulated, presented to the BOD.
  11. Sees that the BOD and Officers are kept fully informed on the conditions and operations of the Association.
  12. Appoints all committee chairs and representatives, for their year as President, subject to the approval of the BOD.
  13. Appoints Nominating Committee.
  14. Appoints Elections Committee.
  15. Appoints Awards Committee.
  16. Serves on the Strategic Planning Committee.
  17. Serves on the Budget Committee.
  18. Professional Standards training each year or as required.
  19. Appoints Task Forces. Outlines the purpose and duties of the task forces and monitors their progress.
  20. In cooperation with the Secretary/Treasurer, Strategic Planning Committee, Budget Committee, and the AE, ascertains that periodic reviews are made so that the Association income and expenses are within the parameters of the approved budget.
  21. Attends budgeted state and national meetings.
  22. Shall be an ex-officio member of all committees.
  23. Signs all legal documents for all transaction with legal implications shall be signed by the President once approved by the Executive Committee and/or BoD. (12/2023)

Past President

Immediate Past President

Duties:

  1. Since the Immediate Past President has held several offices on the BOD, the main duty of this position is to offer guidance to the Board of Directors.
  2. Serves on the Executive Committee.
  3. Serves as designated chair for the Bylaws/Policy and Procedures Committee.

President Elect

President-Elect The President-Elect will automatically take the office of President immediately following their term as President-Elect

 

Duties:

  1. The responsibility of the President-Elect is to prepare to become the President. The President-Elect shall diligently prepare for their term of Presidency well in advance of Installation.
  2. Serves on the Executive Committee.
  3. Serves on the Budget Committee.
  4. The President-Elect performs the duties of the Presidency in the President’s absence or when the President is unable to serve.
  5. Develops detailed familiarity with the structure and administration of the Association.
  6. Appoints committee chairs and representative appointments prior to October BOD meeting. These appointments will take effect when the President-Elect begins their President term.
  7. Serves as chair of Strategic Planning Committee, prior to their presidency.
  8. Professional Standards training each year or as required.
  9. Attends budgeted state and national meetings.

Secretary/ Treasurer

Secretary / Treasurer 

Duties:

  1. The Secretary / Treasurer is the corporate secretary of the Association. (12/2023)
  2. A fiduciary obligation is to oversee the finances of the Association to ensure a fiscally sound operation.
  3. Be familiar with the format and content of the Association’s financial statements and work with the AE to present a current financial report at each regular monthly BOD meeting. Copies shall be provided to each Director at said meetings. Including having full access to all software pertaining to Association finances.
  4. Serves on the Executive Committee.
  5. Pre-approves minutes for the BOD meetings, General Membership Meetings, and special meetings of the Association. Minutes shall include but not be limited to the call to order, roll call, business, and adjournment. Reports and detailed motions carried or defeated shall be recorded in accordance with the latest edition of Robert’s Rules of Order
  6. Responsible for taking meeting minutes, in AE’s absence.
  7. Professional Standards training each year or as required.
  8. Serves on the Budget Committee.
  9. Serves on the Strategic Planning Committee
  10. Shall attend leadership training, if available.

Parliamentarian

Parliamentarian

Duties:

  1. Must attend Robert’s Rule of Orders training within 2 years prior to taking position.
  2. Responsible for seeing that all meetings follow proper parliamentary procedure as outlined in the most current “Robert’s Rules of Order” and a copy of the latest version will be provided from the Association.
  3. Serves on the Executive Committee.
  4. Serves as a mediator to discussions during the meeting.

State Director

State Directors

Represents SGAR at MR functions.

Duties:

  1. A liaison with MR and the membership and BOD of SGAR.
  2. Attend functions of MR as budgeted.
  3. Communicate with MR the concerns of membership and SGAR BOD.
  4. Be knowledgeable of MR Bylaws and Policies.
  5. Must attend a minimum of 2 state conferences and vote during the MR BOD meeting.
  6. Provide a report on the attended committee meetings at the next BOD meeting

Local Director

Local Directors  Represents the local membership at Association functions.

Duties:

  1. A liaison with the membership (i.e. Brokers and Affiliates) and the BOD. Broker offices to be divided and assigned between the Local Directors.
  2. Communicate with the BOD all concerns of the membership. All requests and recommendations will be presented to the BOD in writing; present any petitions to the BOD from the general membership.
  3. Must be an actively engaged member of the Membership Committee.
  4. Must attend all General Membership Meetings.

MLS Director

MLS Director

Duties:

  1. Acts in the best interest of the MLS and not in a manner to gain personal benefit.
  2. Maintains a liaison with the MARIS MLS, as a direct representative of the SGAR BOD.
  3. Responsible to ensure a fair and accurate MLS to benefit our members and their clients and customers.
  4. Ensures the MLS service is maintained that provides the most accurate information, which while it can be deemed reliable, is not guaranteed in its accuracy.
  5. Be knowledgeable of the Bylaws and Regulations of MARIS MLS.
  6. Reports to the BOD on MLS issues and updates decisions made at MARIS BOD meetings.
  7. Attends all MARIS Share Holder meetings and votes on behalf of the board.
