I have been a member of the Jefferson County Board of REALTORS® for over ten years and like most other affiliate members, mailed in a check for my annual membership fee and sponsored several REALTOR® events. I never received one job lead as a result of my membership. This year, I decided to join the Ways and Means Committee and become more involved with the organization. This year alone, I have received over $10,000.00 in new business from agents that I had lost touch with over the years and agents that I had never done business with previously. My new involvement in Board Activities and meeting attendance has greatly improved my sales to agents and their customers. I recommend anyone that wishes to grow their business by meeting new customers and rekindling old relationships, attend as many meetings as possible. The "Givers Gain" principle definitely applies here. If you give some of your attention to helping others (Real Estate Agents in this case) then they will feel compelled to return the favor.

I joined the Board of REALTORS® as an affiliate member just to get my name out in Jefferson County more. I live in Jefferson County and want to serve those individuals in my community. Being new to the business I knew I needed to get my name out there and create visibility for myself so then I could create trust. I joined the board two years ago and understood from the beginning that business wasn’t going to come right away. I am now in my second year and people are knowing who I am now. I still have a ways to go to build the credibility and trust with everyone but I am getting there and that is great for me. I know that those relationships will come and I never would have been able to create all of this without joining the Board of REALTORS®.
